We would like to welcome a new Verizon Wireless Communications Store to our community. Their official ribbon cutting ceremony was on January 31st at 11:00am. Thank you for attending the event and we encourage everyone to visit this new addition to our business network. The Store is located at 1538 Route 23 North next to the Outback Steakhouse Restaurant.
Please help us support the community by attending Outback Steakhouse's opening night in Butler, NJ. Outback Steakhouse will be donating a portion of their opening night sales to the Sgt. Richard Febbi Memorial Fund / For the love of Brad. The opening night event will occur on Monday, February 11th 4PM - 10:30PM.

The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order at 12:20 p.m. with a salute to the flag. All officers and trustees were present at the meeting.

Dues are $75 for the year and will stay that amount for 2008. Motion made by Howard Ball and seconded by Gale Mohvill to keep the dues the same.
Old Business
Reminder of member to member discount throughout the Chamber of Commerce. Support the families overseas by bringing misc. items to the Riverdale Armory. Any member recruiting a new member to the Chamber is entitled to a free lunch at Lina's at any meeting. Reminder, the Chamber of Commerce is a community service non profit organization. The Glen Wild golf outing has be discontinued because of lack of time and effort. We will still have our annual Golf outing in the spring.

Our Guest Speaker will be Cynthia Templeton of Push to Walk which is a Non-Profit Organization which provides therapy for wheelchair-bound individuals with an eye to get them walking. Cynthia's son suffered a neck injury which helped inspire the program which now serves people in our community.

The chamber will conduct a forum featuring State Assemblyman Alex DeCroce (R) at our monthly meeting on April 9th at 12:00 PM, at Lina's Restaurant, 49 Main St. Bloomingdale, NJ.
Bring your questions concerning our state. This forum is open to all area businesses. GENERAL MEETING
The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order at 12:15 with a salute to the flag. Three officers and all trustees were present.
A motion to accept the minutes from the February 13th was made by Howard Ball and seconded by Cheryl Griffin.
A motion was made by Lucille Brule to accept the treasurer’s report and seconded by Dave Warfield.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
FUNDRAISING
Golf Outing- Chairman Jim Murasko reminded everyone about the golf outing on June 10 at Newton Country Club. Flyers were distributed with information regarding the outing and an application form. The price for the day was kept at $150.00.
In addition to golfers the chamber will need volunteers (non-golfers) to help out that day.
This is a major fundraiser, and the bulk of our money comes from hole sponsors, golf cart sponsors, beverage cart sponsors, etc. Members are asked to find sponsors so we can meet our goals.
Howard Ball informed the members that Assemblyman Alex DeCroce will be our guest speaker at the next chamber meeting on April 9. Howard suggested we have members and guests pre-register for this meeting since it will most likely generate a great deal of interest. The chamber will put an announcement in the Trends.
Howard Ball has arranged for a speaker from the Riverdale National Guard to talk about family issues when a soldier is deployed at our May meeting.
At the June meeting, we will be presenting our scholarship money to high school students.
In September we will have our meeting at Cedar Crest in the Independent Living area. All arrangements will be coordinated through Diane Pezzuti.
OLD BUSINESS
After announcing that we are in need of a secretary, Karen Austin of Valley National Bank volunteered for the position. Howard Ball made a motion to cast a unanimous ballot to elect Karen as secretary for the balance of this year. It was seconded by Lucille Brule.
Members were reminded about the PTA fundraiser.
NEW BUSINESS
We discussed adding a feedback page to our website. This will give members an opportunity to make suggestions that will help improve the function of the chamber.
The chamber received a check from Lynn Hazelman for a percentage of her Mary Kay sales to the chamber members in December.

A motion to adjourn the meeting at 1:15 pm was made by Howard Ball and seconded by Lucille Brule.
GUEST SPEAKER
Cynthia Tempelton of Push to Walk www.pushtowalk.org spoke about the specialized facility on Main Street in Bloomingdale, to help people with spinal chord injuries. She discussed the exercise program and the remarkable results they have been getting as a result of the therapies used.
There are about 11,000 spinal injuries every year. Push to Walk has received over 80 inquiries about their program. They are looking to raise funds to keep the facility running, and hopefully expand it in the future.

Alex De Croce, NJ Assemblyman Legislative District 26, addressed issues important to local municipalities and businesses. Topics covered included proposed State of New Jersey budget cuts and tax hikes and their potential impact on commuters, schools, small business owners, retail growers and farmers.

A motion was made by Howard Ball to accept the new members. It was seconded by Lucille Brule.
The new members were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and speak about their respective businesses.
A motion was made by Dave Warfield to accept the Treasurer’s report and seconded by Howard Ball.
BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS
The bills to be paid were as follows;

COMMITTEE REPORTS
GOLF OUTING - Chairman Jim Murasko reported the success of this year’s golf outing. This fundraiser netted $3,339.89 toward funding next year’s scholarships.
SCHOLARSHIP – Jerry Vinci spoke on behalf of Bill Stanton who was unable to attend the awards ceremony. Thanks were expressed to Bill Stanton for chairing the Scholarship Committee, Golf Committee Chair Jim Murasko for spearheading the scholarship fundraiser and Bill Jablonski of the Outback for hosting the awards meeting.
MEMBERSHIP – Karen Austin welcomed the prospective members in attendance and discussed the benefits of membership.
EVENTS – Events Committee Chair Howard Ball apprised the group as to upcoming meetings and special speakers. In September, Tri-Boro Chamber will meet at Cedar Crest. In October, State Attorney General Chris Christie will be our featured speaker. Assemblyman Alex De Croce will also be in attendance. This event will be hosted by Lina’s Restaurant in Bloomingdale. As, attendance should be strong at these meetings, members are requested to indicate their interest in advance.

Jerry Vinci reminded attendees about the Chamber website www.triborochamber.org He made the group aware of the member to member discounts available on the site.
NEW BUSINES
President, Jerry Vinci introduced the 2008 Scholarship Award winners. The recipients are as follows:

All four were given the opportunity to speak about their college and career plans.
It was announced there would be a Board and Trustee Meeting in July at a date yet to be determined.
Howard Ball reminded the attendees the local arm of the New Jersey National Guard is being deployed to Iraq starting in June. Howard will approach the membership as pertaining to the needs of the families of those deployed.
The Chamber Member Spotlight has been added to the Agenda. This will start at our September meeting. All members are urged to bring business cards.

United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey Christopher J. Christie will be our guest speaker.
A big thanks to our trustee Howard Ball for his assitance with getting Chris Christie to our monthly meeting. For this meeting we will require pre registration and pre payment for the luncheon since we expect a very large turnout.

Christopher J. Christie Bio:
Christopher J. Christie was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey on December 7, 2001. He was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on December 20, 2001, and sworn into office on January 17, 2002, by the Honorable Joel A. Pisano, U.S.D.J.
Mr. Christie graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1984. He graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in 1987. Mr. Christie was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the Bar of the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, in December 1987.
In 1987, Mr. Christie joined the law firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci of Cranford, New Jersey. In 1993, Mr. Christie was named a partner in the firm. Mr. Christie specialized in securities law and appellate practice.
Mr. Christie is in his seventh year as the chief federal law enforcement officer in New Jersey. His Office includes 142 attorneys with offices in Newark, Trenton and Camden.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
GOLF OUTING - Chairman Jim Murasko reported the success of this year’s golf outing. This fundraiser netted $3,339.89 toward funding next year’s scholarships.
SCHOLARSHIP – Jerry Vinci spoke on behalf of Bill Stanton who was unable to attend the awards ceremony. Thanks were expressed to Bill Stanton for chairing the Scholarship Committee, Golf Committee Chair Jim Murasko for spearheading the scholarship fundraiser and Bill Jablonski of the Outback for hosting the awards meeting.
MEMBERSHIP – Karen Austin welcomed the prospective members in attendance and discussed the benefits of membership.
EVENTS – Events Committee Chair Howard Ball apprised the group as to upcoming meetings and special speakers. In September, Tri-Boro Chamber will meet at Cedar Crest. In October, State Attorney General Chris Christie will be our featured speaker. Assemblyman Alex De Croce will also be in attendance. This event will be hosted by Lina’s Restaurant in Bloomingdale. As, attendance should be strong at these meetings, members are requested to indicate their interest in advance.
OLD BUSINESS
Jerry Vinci reminded attendees about the Chamber website www.triborochamber.org He made the group aware of the member to member discounts available on the site.
NEW BUSINES
President, Jerry Vinci introduced the 2008 Scholarship Award winners. The recipients are as follows:

All four were given the opportunity to speak about their college and career plans.
It was announced there would be a Board and Trustee Meeting in July at a date yet to be determined.
Howard Ball reminded the attendees the local arm of the New Jersey National Guard is being deployed to Iraq starting in June. Howard will approach the membership as pertaining to the needs of the families of those deployed.
The Chamber Member Spotlight has been added to the Agenda. This will start at our September meeting. All members are urged to bring business cards.

Other News
During the November meeting we will be holding a new Chamber Member Spotlight that will give some of our new members the opportunity to address our group and present their organization to us.
A Business Card Exchange has been scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2008 at Outback Steakhouse (1523 Route 23 North, Butler NJ, 07405) at 4:00 PM and will end at 6:00 PM. GENERAL MEETING
The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Jerry Vinci at 12:20 with a salute to the flag. Four officers and one trustee were present.
. GUEST SPEAKER Jerry Vinci introduced the guest speaker, Christopher J. Christie, United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Mr. Christie addressed the group before the business portion of the general meeting.
Mr,.Christie, as the first Attorney in New Jersey to address the aftermath of 9/11, urged the attendees to continue to remember the lessons of that day. He stated, “Our enemies are willing to wait. We cannot wait to be ready.”
He, also, said it was possible to give away our liberty and freedom by tolerating the “disease of political corruption”. In speaking to this issue he stated, “The true test of character is what you did when no one was watching,” He challenged the hearers to “start watching”.
In conclusion, Mr. Christie, urged all attendees to work together to bring about change that is “positive, hopeful and real”.
General Meeting
In continuing with the general meeting agenda, a motion to accept the minutes from the September 10, 2008 meeting was made by Sal Pagliarulo and seconded by Lucille Brule.

CHRISTMAS PARTY – Jerry Vinci reminded all of the Chamber’s annual Christmas Party to be held at Lina’s Restaurant on the Second Wednesday in December.
EVENTS – In response to Jerry Vinci’s email of October 6th, items were collected for distribution to our Troops.

Chamber Member Spotlight
Lucille Brule will Chair the Nominating Committee. The election of four Officers for the year 2009 and two Trustees to serve two Year terms from 1/1/09-12/31/10 will be held at our next regular meeting on November 12th.
Jim La Sala spoke of an initiative by the Denville Rotary to provide padding for helmets for deployed soldiers. The club is seeking private donations. The cost is $46.00 per helmet. Jim will supply information to the Tri-Boro Area Chamber membership.

GENERAL MEETING
The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order at 12:50 with a salute to the flag. This was followed by a moment of silence for those lost in the World Trade Center tragedy of 9/11/01. The meeting was held at Cedar Crest Village. A special thank you was voiced to Diane Pezzuti and Margarete Hastings of Cedar Crest for their hospitality.

Millie Bird Viewing November 30th & December 1st

It is with a heavy heart that we need to advise all of you that our longtime friend, Millie Bird has passed away on November 26, 2008 after a long illness. Millie was an honorary member of our Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years and she was a former trustee.
Millie was an inspiration to most of us and we all have fond memories of the time we spent with her.
Please keep Millie and her family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday weekend.

Karen Austin is coordinating this event with Bill Jablonski of Outback Notices have been sent out to all members. Extra flyers announcing the event were available for distribution to business owners interested in attending.
OLD BUSINESS
Howard Ball thanked the members for the large turnout for Christopher Christie. Howard was given a standing ovation for coordinating the event.
Howard also mentioned that the items we collected for the soldiers were delivered to the Family Readiness Group at the Riverdale armory. He thanked everyone on behalf of the soldiers. The items are being shipped to Iraq. He also mentioned that the Readiness Group is looking for help with funding to ship these items to our soldiers.
