GENERAL MEETING
The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Jerry Vinci at 12:45 with a salute to the flag. Four officers and two trustees were present. Two U.S. veterans in the group, Warren Frerichs and Dave Warfield, were recognized.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
Two applications for Chamber membership were presented to the membership for approval. The first applicant was Paul McGorry of Phys Ed Fitness. Lucille Brule made the motion to accept Mr. McGorry’s application. The motion was seconded by Dave Warfield.
The second application was that of Warren Frerichs of Realty Executives. Karen Austin made the motion to accept Mr. Frerichs’ application. The motion was seconded by Ed Morba.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 13, 2010 MEETING
A motion to approve the minutes was made by Vivian Vinci seconded by Janice Nelson.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Denise Brewster.

The 200 Club raffle was held. Congratulations to the winners who were: New Jersey Networking Group/Ed Morba $500, Lucille Brule $250, Jim Murasko $125, Jim Boyle $125.
2011 Officer elections were held. All four 2010 officers were relected for the 2011 term year. Officers are as follows: President – Jerry Vinci, Vice President – Jim Murasko, Secretary – Karen Austin, Treasurer – Denise Brewster. Lina Pagliarulo returns for another term as Trustee. Lucille Brule was newly elected for a Trustee position.
The Chamber’s annual Christmas party luncheon will be held at Lina’s at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 8th.
CHAMBER SPOTLIGHT
Due to time constraints, the Chamber Spotlight belonging to Gordon Stone of Energy Matters was not held. Gordon will, instead, be the guest speaker for our January 12, 2011 meeting. Gordon selected the business card of Janice Nelson, Growing Kids/Renewal who will be in the spotlight for the meeting of the same date.

GUEST SPEAKER
In honor of Veterans’ Day, Carl Rotans of Puppies Behind Bars was the Guest Speaker. Puppies Behind Bars is a nonprofit organization that trains prison inmates to raise puppies to become service dogs for the disabled and explosive detection canines for law enforcement. “Dog Tags” is the program that provides service dogs to disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Also in attendance was Frida, a Puppies Behind Bars service dog.

Thanks to everyone who attended the February meeting. We had a great turnout and a very productive meeting. We would like to thank our monthly speaker Gordon Stone from Home Energy Matters for his great discussion on home energy issues. He gave the chamber useful information about the much more efficient home furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, etc that can save on energy costs. He also gave good insight to government rebates and tax breaks for anyone installing these highly efficient systems in their home. We also enjoyed our Chamber Member Spotlight from Janis and Krissy Nelson of Growing/Kids Renewal who spoke about their business which sells slightly used childrens', women's, and baby's clothing and accessories.

located at 72 Hamburg Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ. Janis & Krissy sell gently used
children’s clothing, baby items, women’s clothing and accessories.

GUEST SPEAKERGORDON
STONE – HOME ENERGY MATTERS
Gordon Stone discussed home energy issues. He talked about ways energy can
escape even through the smallest openings from pipes and electrical wiring.
He gave positive reviews to today’s new furnaces, boilers and air conditioning systems
which are more energy efficient. Replacing outdated models would make a big
difference in heating and cooling costs.
Gordon also discussed the New Jersey Clean Energy program. The program offers
rebates up to $4,000 and interest free loans of up to $10,000 for homeowners who
make their homes more energy efficient.
Home Energy Matters will perform an energy audit, point out energy deficiencies and
ways to correct them.

Join us April 13th for our Monthly Meeting
Our meeting will be held April 13th at Lina's Restaurant. We have a special guest speaker this month. Robin Lavarato, Substance Abuse Coordinator at Butler High School. Robin will be discussing the Butler Municipal Alliance Committee which is partnering with business owners, religious leaders, law enforcement and the media to stop substance abuse.
We are looking forward to a good turnout this month and encourage all our members to attend.

This month begins our "Meet The Mayors" program! We invite everyone to come to our May meeting and participate in what is sure to be a great meeting. This month we welcome newly elected Kinnelon Mayor, Robert W. Collins as our speaker. Mayor Collins will be discussing issues concerning Kinnelon.

We would like to formally thank our guest speaker Robin Lovorato, Butler High School Student Assistance Counselor who represented the Butler Municipal Alliance Committee.
The Butler Municipal Alliance Committee was formed to help develop and implement strategies to prevent substance abuse. Programs begin in pre-school and continue through high school. Making healthy choices, problem solving, positive communication, decision making and other life skills are all part of the program.
The NJ Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse receives the funding for the program from the Drug Enforcement and Demand Reduction Fund. It uses monies received from drug charge penalties and monies confiscated in drug arrests. This was a very informative and educational presentation.

1. April 28, 2011 is the date of the annual Rotary Golf Outing. This year it will be at Wild Turkey and honor Former Kinnelon Mayor, Glenn Sisco. A motion was made by Jim Murasko for the Chamber to sponsor the event. It was seconded by Warren Frerichs.
2. Bill Stanton made the group aware of a Rotary special fund raiser to benefit Howard Ball. Donations are being collected to purchase a wheelchair lift and vehicle lift for Howard. If interested, donations are to be made to the Butler Triboro Rotary Club, P.O. Box 113, Butler NJ 07405. Please note on the check, “Keep the Ball Rolling”.

CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
The 5 minute spotlight was held Warren Frerichs of Realty Executives who spoke to attendees about the advantages of dealing with his company when buying or selling real estate. Realty Executives provides virtual tours of listed properties. Warren indicated the importance of personal service and spoke of the benefits of having telephone access to the property listing agent. He selected the business card of Jack Pezzutti of Cartridge World who will be spotlighted at the May 11th meeting.

We would like to thank Kinnelon Mayor Robert W. Collins for his participation in our May 11th meeting and for kicking off our "Meet The Mayors" program.
Mayor Collins discussed the financial issues facing small towns in our area and some of the ways the borough aims to save tax payer money, including consolidating services with other neighboring towns.
In addition, he discussed the re-stabilization of property values in Kinnelon.
Mayor Collins also announced that Kinnelon will be receiving a piece of steel from the World Trade Center towers. Local police who were part of the search effort at ground zero will accompany the artifact from a hangar at J.F.K. Airport to the borough. The piece of steel will be on display in the Borough Hall lobby to commemorate the historic tragic/heroic event. A special ceremony will be held on September 11, 2011.

Committee Reports
Scholarship Committee – Bill Stanton, Scholarship Committee Chairperson added three new members to his committee to assist in the scholarship recipient selection process. They are Lisa Bendel, Vivian Vinci and Karen Austin.
Applicants were required to submit essays explaining how each helps benefit the community and outlining reasons they should considered for the scholarship.
Four essays have been submitted from students residing in the Borough of Kinnelon, three from Butler, two from Bloomingdale, and four from Riverdale.

B. Bill Stanton provided an update as to the status of the Rotary special fund raiser to benefit Howard Ball. The lift has been purchased and delivered to Howard’s home. The concrete pad has been set in place. Phase II, which is the installation of a car lift, is already in motion.
NEW BUSINESS
Discussion was held regarding closing the Chamber money market account housed at Lakeland Bank due to the declining rate climate. The account would be transferred to the, non-interest bearing, Chamber operating account. A motion was made by Brandon Ciercielli to close the account. It was seconded by Lisa Bendel.
Jim Murasko reminded attendees of a fundraiser to benefit Butler Municipal Alliance. All interested should contact Robin Lovarato at 973-492-2000 x 246.

The 5 minute spotlight was held Bruce Raiken of Lee-Nolan Mass Mutual. Bruce made a presentation entitled “Building Your Financial Home”. He referred to himself as a “general contractor” who develops and puts a financial plan in place. He pointed out the various components of a “Financial Home” which included products offered through his company. The BBB can help to resolve problems between consumers and businesses.
Melissa informed the members about business identity theft, which is ten times more common than individual identity theft. Small businesses are more vulnerable to theft because in many cases they do not have the resources to protect vital information.
If you are a victim of business identity theft respond quickly. Contact police or FBI, your bank and credit card companies. Let your customers know if you have been affected by identity theft since the thieves may have access to their private information. Let them know what steps you are taking to address the situation.

We would like to formally thank NJ Assemblyman Alex DeCroce for addressing the chamber during our October meeting.
Assemblyman DeCroce discussed the political landscape in New Jersey and some of the effects of
redistricting.He also talked about the government pro-growth policy which has kept a number of businesses here,and created an incentive for over 20 businesses to relocate to New Jersey.
Assemblyman DeCroce was questioned about the pending legislation that would allow businesses with
1-50 employees to purchase group health insurance through their Chamber of Commerce. He believesthe legislation may possibly be acted upon in the next legislative session after the new year, and thatthere seems to be support for it in both parties.

Thank you to our November Guest Speaker
Our guest speaker was Etta Nappi, Veteran Liaison for Vitas Innovative Hospice Care. Etta spoke about Vitas’ involvement in the veteran community and the services they offer, which include Hospice care and helping veterans apply for government benefits.
She discussed health issues among veterans such as post-traumatic stress syndrome and how it affects the family as well as the veteran. Veterans suffering from the effects of Agent Orange who were exposed during the Vietnam War.
Etta reminded everyone of the importance of showing appreciation to our veterans for the sacrifices they have made for America.

GENERAL MEETING
The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Jerry Vinci at 12:20 with a salute to the flag. Three officers and three trustees were present.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
Smart Stop Self Storage – Riverdale. A motion to accept new member was made by Vivian Vinci and seconded by Helyne Czajkowski.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 12, 2011 MEETING
A motion to approve the minutes was made by Lucille Brule’ and seconded by
Brandon Ciercielli.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The Treasurer’s Report was read by Denise Brewster.

A motion was made by Dave Warfield to accept the Treasurer’s report and seconded by

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Raffle - Jim Murasko reminded members of the raffle next month and availability of raffle books.
Nominating Committee -Brandon Ciercielli contacted members regarding the opportunity to run for office. He expressed the need to fill the position of secretary. No one expressed an interest in running.
OLD BUSINESS
Jerry Vinci reminded attendees to take advantage of the member to member discounts available on our website www.triborochamber.org.
He also encouraged members to visit the Tri-County Chamber site www.tricounty.org for networking opportunities and various events. As a member of the Tri-County chamber all our members can participate in their events.
NEW BUSINESS
Glow House Grand Opening is scheduled for Friday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m.
Election of officers – The current officers were re-elected. A motion to accept the current officers was made by Brandon Ciercielli and seconded by Dave Warfield.
President -Jerry Vinci, Vice President- Jim Murasko,
Treasurer- Denise Brewster. There were no candidates for Secretary.
Theresa Wilson inquired as to the exact duties of the secretary. Theresa agreed to serve as secretary for the coming year. A motion to elect Theresa Wilson secretary was made by Jim LaSala and seconded by Lucille Brule.
Chamber Member Survey – Jerry Vinci distributed a survey sheet to the members and asked that they fill them out for the next regular meeting in January. GUEST SPEAKER
Our guest speaker was Etta Nappi, Veteran Liaison for Vitas Innovative Hospice Care.
Etta spoke about Vitas’ involvement in the veteran community and the services they offer. She discussed health issues among veterans such as post-traumatic stress syndrome and how it affects the family as well as the veteran. Veterans suffering from the effects of Agent Orange who were exposed during the Vietnam War were also discussed.
CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Jim Murasko of Allstate Insurance Company spoke about the recent weather issues which have resulted in numerous calls from clients inquiring as to their coverage for certain damage to their property. He mentioned that some companies will only allow 2 claims in five years or they may not renew the coverage.

Lisa Bendel made a motion at 1:20 p.m. to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Theresa Wilson.
